John J. Yagjian

John J. Yagjian

John Yagjian, JD, concentrates in estate planning, gift, and generation-skipping taxation, succession planning, qualified plan distribution planning, charitable trusts and private foundations.

His clients include highly compensated, high net worth executives, professionals, individuals and business owners requiring sophisticated estate planning to minimize potential estate, gift, and generation skipping taxes, and to ultimately pass their accumulated wealth to multiple generations in a manner that is designed to preserve and enhance the accumulated wealth from unnecessary future taxation, and to minimize the exposure that their beneficiaries may be subject to in the case of divorce or creditor claims.

John’s approach to estate planning for wealthy individuals is based upon the fact that there are two basic ownership interests, ownership (or control) and beneficial interest (the right to use and enjoyment). By separating these two interests, and then treating them in an appropriate manner substantially the same amount of control is maintained, the beneficial interest is unchanged, and tax, creditor and divorce protection is enhanced in a manner that would not be available with outright ownership.

Because each client faces unique financial needs, each solution is customized and implemented on an individual basis.

John received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Tufts University and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations, a former member of the Boston Bar Association Probate Council, and a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association Tax Council. John has lectured frequently on estate planning for the Massachusetts Bar Association, Suffolk University School of Law, Bentley University and the Foundation for Continuing Education. John is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the federal courts, and the federal Tax Court. Immediately after graduating from law school, John joined the tax department of the big four accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. Later, John became a partner in the Boston law firm of Barron & Stadfeld, PC, where he managed the tax, business and estate planning department for ten years. Following his tenure at Barron & Stadfeld, John served as Vice President and in-house counsel to a large Boston area planning firm before joining Rubin Hay. John can be reached at (508) 875-5222 and his e-mail address is jyagjian@rubinhay.com.
